In Kenya my focus was on seeing as much wildlife as possible. The Masai Mara came to the party with the migration of the Wildebeest crossing the Mara River, what more could one ask for! The incredible noise as they gathered, the faltering at the river’s edge, the plunging by the first Wildebeest then the following by the rest of the herd, pushed from behind by the thousands, trying to cross without the intervention of the crocs. On the other side a steep bank halted their escape and some were forced to return back across the river. Amboseli, the home of the elephant provided some amazing encounters as family after family of these gentle giants gathered at watering holes and meandered around the grassy reserves after rain so lush, little ones interacting and playing & adult mamas & papas jostling for position in the hierarchy, although we know that mama is the matriarch in the elephant family. The little visited Ruma National Park, home to the rare Rothschild giraffe, was all quiet but a sighting of the black rhino satisfied the wildlife appetite there. The visit to Lake Victoria included a stay on Mfangano Island, long boat across, during which time we towed another long boat into a village after its engine failed. Its all about helping out one’s fellow fishermen.. Water bus back to Homa Bay was teaming with locals going about their business, carrying loads of this & that, furniture, firewood, bags of coal & anything else one could think of.

Another photographer’s dream & cant wait to return to experience more of Africa’s stark & vast beauty.
